Here at Studio Design Group, our architects are passionate advocates for the underrepresented in architecture. Undoubtedly, the male lense has overpowered the field throughout history. Our public consciousness has come to assume that the word “architect” assumes male. Jane Hall’s recent publication, Breaking Ground: Architecture by Women is dismantling this paradigm. Her work catalogues and celebrates architecture by women and explores why representation matters in our society. The book not only features women who are underrepresented in general in architecture but also showcases examples from all over the world, specifically regions that typically don’t make their way into mainstream architectural history.
From turn-of-the-20th-century pioneers like American architect Julia Morgan to contemporary trailblazers like Japan’s Kazuyo Sejima, Hall’s work will encourage a powerful paradigm shift when you hear the word “architect.”
