Congrats to our very own Ellen Goodwin! She has been honored as a Champion in Healthcare from The Pacific Coast Business Times, a weekly business journal subscription serving the Central Coast. The journal holds an annual award program that spotlights leaders in the healthcare realm every year. This year’s theme is: Managing Disruption, and Ellen was recognized for her innovative work on the Oppenheimer Family Center for Emergency Medicine at the French Hospital Medical Center.
Renovating and expanding a functional hospital requires exceptional skill and management—Ellen was thrilled to take on the challenge as lead architect for the project. The “disruption” the facility faces is a steady growth in ER visits and hospital census. To manage this growth, the French Hospital’s expansion project is “designed to earn the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation, by creating accommodations integrated into the unit to address concerns for acoustical privacy, lighting, furniture and equipment”.
The county is also seeing a higher demand for luxury touches in healthcare design, and our architects in San Luis Obispo are excited to give the outdated space a more modern feel. The Oppenheimer Family Center interior now seems “more hospitality than hospital,” Ellen says. From terrazzo flooring, to comfortable seating, and multiple charging stations for handheld devices, the interiors are a far step away from traditional healthcare facilities.
At Studio Design Group Architects, our passion is creative problem solving. So whether you’re looking to renovate a facility or start from the ground up, know that our team thrives on finding innovative solutions that best serve the needs of the end user.
