Here at Studio Design Group Architects, a San Luis Obispo commercial architecture firm, we like to stay up-to-date on emerging trends in architecture and design.
Check out the latest trends you can expect to see this year:
‘Green’ Building
The last few centuries have experienced a major industrial boom, leading directly to negative impacts on the environment. In the past few years, people have started to become ultra-aware of this, and are trying to find ways to counter the negative effects in any way that they can. Some commercial architects and builders are increasingly using more natural materials—like wood.
Designs With More Natural Lighting
Architects are also starting to design with more windows and incorporating more natural lighting into designs. Natural lighting also goes along with the ‘greener’ building, due to less electricity needing to be used. Also, studies have shown that people who work in buildings with more natural lighting tend to be happier and more productive.
Advancements in Technology
Like most industries, technology is starting to have major impacts on architecture. As advancements are being made in technology, more possibilities are available for architects and designers to be able to experiment and switch up their methods. Things like 3D printers and robots can end up saving a lot of time, leading to architects being able to try out new things they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to.
Buildings With Interesting Shapes
Lately, we’ve been seeing more commercial architecture going away from the typical shapes most commonly seen. Of course there have been many buildings throughout history with interesting shapes and designs, but with the latest technological advancements, they are only increasing in popularity. Architects have more abilities and freedoms with their designs.
