Acute Rehab Remodel & Expansion
The only facility of its kind within a 200-mile radius, the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit helps patients experiencing a loss of function from injury or illness regain the functions needed to return to independent living.
This project created a 20 bed rehabilitation unit for acute orthopedic rehabilitation with physical therapy, a physical therapy gymnasium, occupational therapy space, recreation and dining space, exam room, offices, family waiting room, and outdoor training areas.
Because both new and remodeled spaces were included, the project was designed in phases that allowed the hospital to maintain all required patient services and continued use of entrances and parking areas.
The occupational therapy space includes a complete residential kitchen and restroom to simulate a home environment and provide for activities for daily living training. A classroom is provided for staff and patient education, and private conference room allows for private meeting with patients and families.
The facility has been very successful in providing much needed acute rehab services. Hospital administration is considering construction of additional rehabilitation beds to meet the continuing need.
