Angiography Operating Suite
St. John’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence was created through expansion of the neuroscience program at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, California. A recent addition to the hospital’s campus now allows Dignity Health to offer essential angiographic imaging services to Ventura County and nearby communities that were previously underserved.
Completed in 2019, the state-of-the-art hybrid operating suite features a neurointerventional biplane angiography system, which produces highly detailed three-dimensional views of blood vessels leading to the brain. The equipment is the latest, most sophisticated C-arm imaging system for angiography, cardiology, and surgery available today. This facility is an important addition to a statewide network that allows patients to reach lifesaving facilities within critical time periods.
In a departure from more common methods used in hospital design, a lightweight, metal framed building using steel wall studs and roof joists was built, allowing for faster construction assembly and a shorter overall construction schedule. The design of a non-combustible Type 1A building was consistent with the existing structure and eliminated the need for a typical fire separation scheme.
Seamless planning and implementation allowed St. John’s to begin providing crucial services as soon as possible. Efficient leadership from Dignity Health provided adequate budget, support, and authorization to get the project moving. Our Studio Design Group team’s expertise and experience with HCAI (formerly OSHPD) projects meant construction documents were created and approved in record time. The chosen design and construction methods contributed to nimble execution, with a total time of just three years from initial design to completion of construction.
The angiography operating suite at St. John’s Regional Medical Center is an example of important acute care needs being recognized and met through professional dedication and strong working relationships. With the completion of this project, California has one more indispensable facility in its lifesaving network of angiographic imaging services.
