Kraker Building - San Luis Obispo Commercial Design

Kraker Building

Sitting prominently at the southern end of downtown San Luis Obispo, at the corner of Higuera and Nipomo Streets, the Kraker Building was intended to command street presence.

The design is a contemporary expression of early 19th century “main street” architecture with tall storefront windows at street level, upper floors with smaller window proportions, and finished with a significant element at the roofline. Other typical details were streamlined, such as the pilasters, bulkhead, and clerestory windows.

Retail spaces are located at sidewalk level for easy access and visibility to passersby. The upper two floors host space for professional offices, a coveted commidity in the downtown area. A south facing third floor patio provides views to the surrounding city and iconic foothills beyond.
