Phase One of French Hospital’s Oppenheimer Center for Emergency Medicine was completed in January of 2020, giving San Luis Obispo healthcare an essential and timely upgrade. Studio Design Group is excited to announce that Phase Two has just wrapped up and the project is now complete.
Studio Design Group’s initial phase project design added 8,850 square feet to the Emergency Department, including exam and critical care rooms, additional entrances for easier access, comfortable new waiting rooms, a nurses’ station, helipad, and staff lounge. While the first phase added much needed space to the Emergency Department, this second phase remodeled and upgraded the existing buildings for comfort and safety, and to accommodate a higher volume of patients. The new renovation brings the total to 18 private treatment rooms, which means more privacy, better access, and improved patient care.
Other new features include:
• Rooms designed specifically for critical care, trauma, and triage
• Specialized private rooms for geriatrics, orthopedics, and pediatrics, as well as exam accommodations for behavioral health patients
• An open, centralized nurses’ station, and large, welcoming lobby
• A new, state-of-the-art imaging suite, featuring a high-quality CAT scan and x-ray equipment that provide rapid imaging with low radiation
Community and staff reactions have been overwhelmingly positive about the new design and amenities. French Hospital nurse Jessi Norris told Beyond Health,“It means being ready for emergencies with our Helipad and our NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit), and even though we are a relatively small community, we are going to have a hospital that can handle anything that comes our way.”
With this last phase complete, the renovation project has added a total of 12,600 square feet of space to the existing complex. In a press release, French Hospital President and CEO Alan Ifiniuk says, “We are providing our community with the most advanced emergency services department in San Luis Obispo County, an expectation our community deserves, and we look forward to additional upcoming expansion and modernization projects on our campus.”
