If you have been following our updates, you know how excited the Studio Design Group architects are about the Sensorio art space in Paso Robles. We even volunteered before it opened to help install the fiber optic cables that run throughout the Field of Light Exhibit. Since its debut in May 2019, Sensorio has been a huge success at the site, on social media, and in the news.
Sensorio Field of Light is a walking tour art installation of over 58,000 colorful stemmed glass orbs. The solar-powered spheres span 15 acres over the beautiful hills of a stunning 350-acre property in Paso Robles. It was designed by internationally acclaimed artist, Bruce Munro.
The Field of Light closed for a time during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since reopened with additional safety features, one-way paths, and exciting new ideas for the future. The updated exhibit, renamed “Bruce Munro: Light at Sensorio,” has added another unique element: Light Towers.
In honor of Paso Robles’s celebrated “Wine Country,” Munro created 69 towers constructed entirely of wine bottles. These 6-foot towers are illuminated with solar-powered fiber optics and change color to a musical score. The result is a truly one-of-a-kind experience that visitors can see, hear, and feel.
Sensorio’s huge popularity before the closure inspired the owners to upgrade their plans to better meet the needs of the visitors and the community, so Studio Design Group architects have developed plans for the Market Building, the first permanent structure on the property.
This 4,600 sq.ft. new construction will offer food, wine, and other refreshments to the increasing number of guests to the Field of Light.
We created an open design with multiple points of entry and spacious outdoor eating areas to insure proper flow and access for guests. The new structure will include a commercial kitchen, bar, and large outdoor dining space. It offers a small seating area for a quick bite indoors, but visitors will primarily be enjoying their refreshments al fresco.
The Market Building is situated in the welcoming “Event Lawn” near the entry point to the Field of Light exhibit. The exterior opens onto an expansive Event Lawn with overhead trellises and a stage for entertainment. The result will be a casual but elegant gathering place for locals and tourists to enjoy tasting events, music, and wine, with a shimmering colorful backdrop. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2021.
